S&H Express was recently named a Fleet to Watch in the Best Fleets to Drive For contest held
each year by CarriersEdge. The contest was created in 2008 and is one of the most prestigious
and competitive in the trucking industry. It is open to for-hire trucking companies with 10 or more
tractor-trailers under their own authority in the US or Canada. Each year, the Best Fleets to
Drive For contest recognizes the top fleets that are providing exceptional work environments for
their drivers.
Multifaceted Contest
Fleets must be nominated by a driver or independent contractor currently working for them.
Once the nomination is made, management completes a comprehensive questionnaire
including compensation, benefits, human resource strategies, operational strategy, performance
and recognition, development and career, and work/life balance. After the questionnaire is
submitted, company leadership participate in a 90-minute interview. Then, a prescribed number
of drivers, jockeys, and owner operators – approximately 1/3 – must complete and submit a 56-
question driver survey.
Companies that complete all four contest components are recognized as Finalists.
What is a Fleet to Watch?
The Top 10 Large Trucking Companies and Top 10 Small Companies are selected from among
the contest Finalists. Carriers Edge then designates one overall winner in each category. Five
companies are designated as Fleets to Watch.
The five Fleets to Watch demonstrate a strong commitment to driver satisfaction, safety, and
overall excellence. They are making their mark on the trucking industry by utilizing innovative
approaches to driver engagement, retention, and development as well as their focus on creating
a positive and supportive work environment.
This is the third year that S&H Express has participated in the contest. President Jordan Kolb
notes that being recognized by Best Fleets makes our company more attractive to potential
drivers, adding “we want to hire the best of the best!”
Being a Finalist and now Fleet to Watch motivates our company to continue to improve our
driver programs and policies. CFO Dave Ruiz says, “The contest gives us a way to benchmark
our performance against the best in the industry.”
Thank you to Regional Driver Cheyenne Ward for her 2024/2025 nomination, and to Dedicated
