The Pennsylvania Motor Trucking Association’s Safety Management Council honored S&H Express driver Jason Fake as their June 2023 Driver of the Month at a banquet at the Penn Harris Hotel & Convention Center on March 27. PMTA member companies are filled with drivers who go above and beyond every day to ensure safety, efficiency, and excellence in the industry. PMTA chooses one driver each month to be named the Driver of the Month. And the end of the calendar year, all twelve Drivers of the Month are then evaluated, and one is named the Driver of the Year at an annual awards dinner.
Jason began driving for S&H Express in December 2004. He services one of the company’s toughest lanes – a daily NYC/Long Island run with backhaul. Director of Operations Doug Forry and Driver Manager Tina Bailey suggested Jason as the company’s 2023 nominee. “Jason is very punctual, always ensuring that he makes on-time delivery,” says Bailey.
Jordan Kolb, President of S&H Express did not hesitate to endorse Jason as the 2023 nominee, saying “Jason is very customer service forward, always ensuring that customers are taken care of to the best of his ability. Jason has a good attitude and is very easy to work with.” Kolb adds, “Without a doubt, he is worthy of recognition.”
Jason began his driving career driver as a boy helping his dad farm and says that growing up on a farm taught him patience, respect, hard work, and of course, how to drive a commercial vehicle. In addition to driving for S&H, Jason has driven three-axle vans, straight trucks, flatbeds, and twins. He has driven through all 50 states except for Alaska, Hawaii, and North Dakota. Jason calculates that over his career he has driven close to 3 million safe miles. His driving stats include MPG – 8.2%; Idle Time – <5%, and Samsara Scores averaging 93 out of 100.
In addition to driving full-time, Jason is a loving husband to April and a doting dad to their children. He is still helping his dad on the farm, cares for his own property, and takes it upon himself to look out for his neighbors, many of them veterans who need assistance with mowing, landscaping, shoveling, and repairs. He volunteers at a food bank, sings in choir, serves as church deacon, and looks out for his co-workers and neighbors. When Jason leaves each day, he is prepared with tools, spare parts, and his great attitude. Jason takes care of his co-workers – sending Christmas cards, stopping in to say, “thank you” and once, bringing a calf to visit the maintenance shop. Why? Because a co-worker loves cows!
PMTA promotes the professional & economic growth of the industry and the businesses that support it.
